Porsche Panamera coding programming: Autel MaxiSys MS906BT or PIWIS?

$

Car model and year: Porsche Panamera

Purpose: coding / programming

What tool can code / program Porsche Panamera?

1.PIWIS 3:

Porsche 970 – Panamera (up to MY 2017): confirmed

Porsche 971 – Panamera (from MY 2017): confirmed

Price: 1999usd

Online update: yes

Porsche-Panamera-coding-programming-01

2.PIWIS 2:

Porsche 970 – Panamera (up to MY 2017): confirmed

Porsche 971 – Panamera (from MY 2017): No

Price: Cheaper and can code and do anything. From $350 to $750 depending on how handy you are with a PC. For $750 you get the factory Panasonic Toughbook that the dealer used until 2018.

your option would be to create a VM ware virtual machine and image the PIWIS II files to it given you likely aren’t comfortable with that you can buy the exact tool the dealer used for £630 which is a complete unit. Plug it in and turn it on.

Porsche-Panamera-coding-programming-02

Porsche Panamera coding / programming with one PIWIS:

Change spark plugs and ignition coils. (The engine module is self calibrating and will learn new parts automatically)
Change front rotors and pads
Change switches,
Change washers, wipers window motors, door locks
Change most engine sensors
Change your own oil (but you wont be able to reset the service interval)
Change differential oil
Change battery (But you wont be able to tell the car you changed it)
Change bulbs

Here are some basic things that you can do that require a PIWIS
Change the rear rotors
Change any suspension parts
Change seat motors
Change any control modules (There are 27 of them) All need to be coded with the VIN of the car
Change the battery and record the change with the gateway module
Reset the service interval
Change the PDK oil
Change headlight components that aren’t bulbs
Change clock spring ( will require codes which only the dealer can get but you can buy from the Chinese

3.Durametric: NO

Does not support coding/programming on the Panamera (any of their versions)

The Durametric device just doesn’t come close to providing the information you need and many of the error code labels it provides are simply wrong and will lead you changing parts that don’t need changing.

4.iCarSoft POR II: NO

can code injectors, but not much else from what I can see. It’s also unclear from their website as to whether it will perform grinding procedure on new park brake shoes for example, which is necessary for my layout in addition to simply latching the park brake shoes to service position to allow removal of the brake rotors.

5.AUTEL MaxiSys MS906BT: Confirmed

AUTEL MaxiSys MS906BT (supports Bluetooth, approx $1,199) . But can code components to the vehicle. Can also calibrate park brake and do grinding in procedure on the shoes. There are cheaper models that do this but they don’t code. There are free software updates for first 12 months. Expensive to update after that but you don’t have to update it if you don’t want to. Not seen anything else that has the capabilities of this tool for the money.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-01

Procedure:

Plug Launch Thinkdiag scanner into the 16pin port of 2017 Toyota.

You should see the green light and hear the beep and you know it’s connected.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-02

Connect the vehicle with Thinkdiag.

You have two different options:

  1. First way would be to go into your Think store.

You can select the Toyota software here, if you don’t have it downloaded you would select “Download”; if you do have it downloaded you would just select the software.

Connecting the Bluetooth.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-03 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-04 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-05

  1. Or we can select all systems full functions which would automatically scan the vehicle for you.

We have make ,year, model and VIN (2017 Toyota Sienna ), click on “Next Step”.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-06 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-07

Select “16PIN DLC (Europe and Other)”.

Enter “Health Report”.

This will scan the Toyota Sienna all modules and tell you how it healthy or not.

If you see the module that you want to test before the scan is finished, you can press the “pause” function, that will stop the scan and give you the information.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-14 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-15

Thinkdiag will show you fault codes, we can clear them by selecting “Clear DTCs”.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-16 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-17 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-18

Select the ECU system.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-19 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-20

Select “Read Data Stream”.

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-21

Select which module you want to read the data stream or we can select all.

And we have 27 pages of data there. You could press “Combine”, select the options you want to graph. A nice feature with Launch Thinkdiag tool like pinch and zoom anything like that, so you can change the scaling thereby pinching it this way and then bring it on the screen, can you scroll it that’s actually great..

launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-22 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-23 launch-thinkdiag-2017-toyota-sienna-health-report-24

Go back to read the fault codes.

Pay Attention:

This patch cold be makes problems in the cars under My 2010 and Upper 2016 so Pay attention , the solution is you have to activate the Authority shown as below:

Here is Original SDD Authorized:

sdd-v159-005

JLR SSD or Pathfinder?

Question:

I was looking to use JLR SDD with a Discovery Sport made on April 2018.
Can I use SDD or not?

Without patch (in the first free day), it gives an error.

After patch, program says that SDD cannot be used, and propose to use ISD.
In ISD, I have only 2015 – 2016 – 2017 year of construction, and selecting 2017 gives the error “the vehicle cannot be identified”.

Answer: 2018 you might need PAthfinder!

Look at JLR DoIP VCI Pathfinder Interface:

Pathfinder-06

Work with all Jaguar & Land Rover models after 2005 year.

Work with the models after 2017, support Pathfinder software application

Work with the models before 2016, support SDD software.

JLR SDD Service Functions / vehicle parameter programming:

Need one extra JLR SDD Coded Access Password (100 tokens or 1000 tokens)

Compatible with:

JLR Mangoose cable with SDD software.

Looking for car key programmer for making keys on Passat B6 and CC . This article is available with some working ones reviews: FVDI 2018, FVDI 2014, Xhorse VVDI2 etc.

Part 1.

1.Fvdi 18 will do 2006 passat because I’ve done one with it… has other functions which are useful… downside is the drivers are a pain and some stuff doesnt work.. welcome to the clones

2.FVDI 2018 Key learning passat b6 2009
fvdi can decrypt pin and cs all 7 byte from ccm only
learning spare key with remote – ok

Key learning successfully

only from ccm dump

rest can do on obd

FVDI-2018-Key-learning-passat-b6-2009-01 FVDI-2018-Key-learning-passat-b6-2009-02 FVDI-2018-Key-learning-passat-b6-2009-03

3.Also Fvdi 2014 done make key passat b6 2008 by tag key from comfort dumb
But passat b6 +2008 and cc with med17/edc17 need old key to read cs and pin or read ecu by other tool and extract pin and cs.

VAG FVDI 2014 = VAG AVDI 2013 = same functions
made all cars before MQB

4.More below:

Brand/Model of car : passat b6 1.9tdi
– YeAR of car :2008
– Feature in relation :Prepare dealer key by obd and find 7th byte from working key and matched to car
– Version of FVDI 2014 v21
– Result :Ok

– Brand/Model of car : passat
– Year of car : 2002
– Feature in relation : pin
– Version of FVDI : v18
– Result : OK

FVDI does not have a problem with B6. Only the user does what he does not understand.

Part 1: Xhrorse VVDI2 Passat B6/CC key programming user manual & review:

4th immobilizer system

VW Passat B6/B7/CC Key Learn

vvdi2-passat-key-programming-04

You can read PIN and 6 bytes CS from ECU via OBD, no comfort module dump

46 Transponder:

Lost all key is same as add key with working key. Place 7th byte CS to “FF”

48 Transponder:

Add key: you need find 7th byte CS from working key, you can follow steps: 1->2->3->4

Lost all key: this type need use try start method to find working key. Try times belong to 0-255. First try need start from 0, if failed in the procedure, record the failed times. Next time, try start with last failed times.

Cannot read 6 bytes CS from ECU. Here you need comfort module dump (95320) support. After load comfort module dump you will get window

It has 3 methods to decrypt comfort module dump:

u Decrypt 7 bytes CS from dump file (usually we select this method)

u Get CS from ECU EEPROM dump

u Have 6 bytes CS

Decrypt success :

You will get the 7 bytes CS and PIN after decrypt success. So make dealer key is very easy. No matter 48 or 46, no matter lost all key or add key, they are all same.

Decrypt failure:This type rarely happen

Add Key

Lost All key: this type need use try start method to find working key. Try times belong to 0-255. First try need start from 0, if failed in the procedure, record the failed times. Next time, try start with last failed times. Number 6 (Unlock 46 key) only unlock the temp key under try start method under decrypt failure method

5th immobilizer system

VW Passat B6/CC – CAN (Support OBD lost all key)

VW Passat B6/CC with EDC17/MED17 – CAN (Support OBD lost all key)

Passat/CC 46 Transponder learned key failure, verify “Dealer Key”. If you get “NO” mean ignition key is not dealer key. You need prepare dealer key first. Don’t worry about “Locked Key” value, dealer key can be learned without test this item. Please check other failure reason

Passat/CC lost all key, don’t know transponder type, Prepare a 48 transponder and a 46 transponder, insert to ignition switch one by one, verify “Transponder type OK”. If you get “YES” mean the immobilizer system use this type transponder

K-Line Instrument/Immobox

Instrument Cluster – Magneti Mareli – Shadow 2 (Passat)

Adapt Unit

Passat B6 /CC Comfort module

– You can load EEPROM dump (95320) for 2nd hand comfort module, or type in known PIN/CS manually

– Press button “Read” . It requires input power class for 2nd hand module。

Attention: the working key in 2nd hand comfort module will stop work after success reading, it can start work after write with correct 7 bytes CS. This usually happen for adapt original comfort module in car, because the comfort module have working key

– Input new Immo No, VIN, power, total 7 bytes CS, PIN, press button “Write”

– Note: Comfort module power class can change via adapt unit

Instrument EEPROM: Decrypt for PIN, KM, and set new KM

Vida ReviewS:

1.The rub with VIDA on an old, dedicated laptop is that you must first charge up the laptop, then boot the laptop, and wait for VIDA to initialize before you can do anything. I have yet to try and run VIDA on a virtual machine on a faster computer.

That said, you really do need VIDA. VIDA on a cheap old laptop will pay for itself first problem.
Example: Anti-skid problem on the 2011 XC90. I could reproduce the problem repeatedly with the steering wheel, so I was 99% sure that the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) was the problem. Still, $250 part. Supposedly, another $200 for “software”. VIDA let me plot all of the signals in and out of the SAS. I could demonstrate without a doubt that the SAS was the problem. Furthermore, once I had the new part installed, all was well. I could then query the Brake Control Module (BCM) to be sure that the SAS was sending the data downstream properly. It was. Car was happy. No codes. No need for software. Furthermore, since the car was under a 30 day warranty, and the SAS is the airbag’s clock spring, I got the dealership (a Jeep dealership) we bought it from to cut me a check for the part… though I had to play a little hardball to get there. In short, what would have been a $1000 dealership fix was a $0 fix. Laptop was $300.

2.I am ending up trying VIDA, I follow the RickHaleParker thread (matthewsvolvo forum) on how to install it on Windows10. Was really easy and it should work fine as soon as my dice unit comes in. I’m ready to hook it up now.

Reviews:

I agree that VIDA/DICE is the best way to go by a very big margin. But like many, mine’s on an old laptop that takes awhile to boot up. A “lite” tool is handy.

Handy for the seemingly random P0420/P0430 codes that come up once every other month with the XC90.

Launch X431 Pro Mini Reviews:
1.I got myself a LAUNCH X431 mini. It worked perfectly on my XC60s. It basically can do anything that you may want to do as a DIYer. The unit is based on Android, the interface is very smooth and user friendly. The software got updated regularly so I assume it will work well with all the latest models of any manufacturers. You have 2 years of free update after registering the unit.

2.Package came fast. Called the customers service for TECH support and I was asked to offer them the serial number, country and language I would be needed for using the tool. after activation and downloading the sofware, found it is really a multi-function device with a wide car coverage list. I applied it to my Porsche, and it accurately solved the oil indicator and cleared the DTC. I also used it to troubleshoot problems of my wife’s AUDI, couple of problems was found and fixed without issues. A good unit indeed. The seller was fairly supportive and the product good as well, I bet this product can at least save me $2000 plus time and labor per year. Highly recommend.

97 Chevrolet 3.1 Lumina loss of power solved with GM Tech2

$
0
0

Car model and year: 1997 Chevrolet 3.1 Lumina with 90K.

Issue:

A bit of a very slow coolant loss, and the pump was found leaking. Replacing that, about a month ago, it started having a loss of power between 20-40 mph. I took the car and found misfire codes on cylinders 2, 4, 5, and 6. I cleaned the MAS, replaced the spark plugs and wires, checked all the coil-packs with a spark tester (they checked out with strong spark), and checked the fuel pressure at the fuel tube that feeds the injectors.

With that done and the problem persisting (especially when the car warmed up to operating temp), I had Cottman transmission (very reputable guys at this local shop) and they checked it out and found the same engine codes, but stated the transmission was working fine.

What I did:

I took it for a test drive and here’s what she did:
1) Starting it, it had a slightly rough idle but moved easily at low speeds.
2) Upon pulling out of the neighborhood and onto a State road that headed uphill, I pressed the accelerator about 1/2 way as typical. Initially it accelerated as expected, but after about 30 yards it started to run at a lower speed and engine rev as if I reduced the pedal to about 1/4.
3) When the car reached the crest of the hill, even though I didn’t alter the pedal position, it began accelerating to a more expected 1/2 pedal acceleration.
4) The above was typical on all uphill slopes… oh, and when I got out with it running, I could smell un-burnt gas.

5) Noting the engine service light was on, I had the code pulled and received the following: PO301 “cylinder misfire detected – cylinder number 1”
6) I pulled the #1 wire (wires and plugs are new) and did a spark test, it was sparking strong and quickly at a separation of 36-38.

I’m going to pull the plug and check it for damage, but that is an extremely remote issue. I don’t even understand why 1 cylinder misfire would cause the acceleration issue that she has, it just doesn’t add up. Previously, before the heads were pulled, the misfire codes were intermittent misfire in cylinders 2, 4, 5, and 6.

When I last had the code pulled, it was PO300.

March 11th, 2020 update:

Just test drove her again and got the error code:
PO102
Mass of Volume Air Flow A
Circuit Low

I replaced the MAF a few days ago. So I remeoved the new plastic one and replaced it with the original aluminum one (that’s clean as a whistle) and there was no change in the error code. Plus, I then tested it with my multi-meter, here are the results:
1) With the harness disconnected and the engine/ignition off:
All three wires (red, black and yellow) ohm-ed out as ground.
2) With the key in the ignition and it turned to run position without the engine on:
The power wire (red) had almost 13 volts, the ground (black) wire was grounded, and the signal wire had about 6 volts.
3) With the engine running and the harness attached:
I tested the Hertz with my TEST BENCH set to 20 Hertz and the signal wire (yellow) had a fairly consistent 2.14 hertz at idle (engine warm) and when the engine revved it smoothly went to just above 14 hertz and then evenly went back down to 2.14 when the idle was slowly released.

March 11th, 2020 update:

To add to my complex testing, I ran the car with my Foxwell attached and the Foxwell has a (g/s) reading for the MAF during the events in real time. It seems it was registering 4-5 during idle and was at the 40-50 range when it was bogging down, but when it cleared and accelerated as expected, it was well into the high 60s and into the 70s. Is this something that assists? Both the original GM MAF and the new replacement AC Delco MAF are performing the exact same way.

March 16th, 2020 update:

I found the yellow sensor wire that goes from the MAF sensor to the PCM wasn’t clean when I used my Ohm meter, it showed about 1.71. I ran a new wire along the same route and spliced it into the existing connectors. The new test drive was markedly better in acceleration and speed. However, after clearing the code, it still showed “”PO102, Mass of Volume Air Flow A, Circuit Low.”

I grabbed an older laptop in great condition with XP on it, so I could run the GM program to flash the PCM, I’m loading XP Professional on it with Service Pack 3 so it should run it properly, and I’ll “flash” the junkyard PCM first to my daughter’s VIN and see if that fixes the issue.

March 19th, 2020 update:

Finished (though I had to go to a shop with a GM Tech 2 and basically rent it with the mechanic).

Everything is factory spec, and it idles and revs without issue. No trouble codes. Everything is within spec. when we looked over all the info in his Tech 2 readings.

When driving (though markedly better and gets up to highway speed great), still it seems the engine, as it is accelerating: feels that it either adjusts the fuel/spark a bit, or the transmission shifts prematurely into a higher gear or something (that’s the only way I can describe it). It’s weird to feel the car do something without driver input. Whatever it is is keeps the car from continuing its acceleration for a few seconds. If I give it throttle during the event, it downshifts and accelerates great through the issue. If I don’t alter the accelerator, and keep it steady during the event, it waits a few seconds and then shifts to overdrive and feels normal.

Since I changed the fluid and filter when I first was alerted of the issue by my daughter during my maintenance work, and the old fluid was discolored (aged) and there was no metal dust or filings on the magnet, I’m wondering if I just need to allow her to drive it and change the fluid again in a few days and see if it flushes more of the old fluid that was trapped inside the torque converter?

March 27th, 2020 update:

PROBLEM SOLVED
So my friend has some awesome equipment to test Hz and other sensor feedback and we looked at the Knock Sensor and the O2 Sensors (much more sensitive than mine as well as had the exact ranges of signal that should be expected). The Knock Sensor and the O2 Sensors both looked slightly out of spec, enough to do a test drive with first the Knock Sensor disconnected and then a drive with both the Knock Sensor as well as the upstream O2 Sensor disconnected.

With the Knock Sensor disconnected the drag or delay in acceleration under load was gone, though it wasn’t completely smooth. With both disconnected, it drove really well and there was no drag or delay or alteration of power during driving. I replaced both the Knock Sensor as well as the upstream O2 Sensor and tested the car again. It drives as it should.

So, in the end, the car had these issues:
1) the #1 cylinder had a head gasket leak, fixed with head gaskets replaced
2) the MAF sensor was sending inaccurate info and had a damaged wire, replaced
3) the vacuum Transmission Modulator was broken, replaced
4) the upstream O2 Sensor was not within spec, replaced
5) the Knock Sensor was sending wildly inaccurate info, replaced

Interestingly, only item #2 above was determined by the PCM to be in error and would throw a Service Engine Soon light or throw a code, the PCM was silent on the other errors. I guess a ’97 GM PCM was not very sophisticated.

However, note the warning that it will not work with our W208 chassis.

The reason is that MB only implemented a subset of OBDII on the W208, that brought out only power, ground and a single ended K line to the OBDII connector (e.g. only sufficient to see emission faults). Additionally, at the time, MB used a proprietary software protocols that even made using the W208 38 pin engine bay diagnostic connector with a OBBII adapter problematic.

For MY’s 2004 up, MB finally implemented full OBDII signalling and protocols, which likely make these newer scanners workable. When you read reviews, note the model and MY date.

99-CLK-320-Coupe-diagnosis-002

Or VXDIAG Benz, which perform the same functions for W208 as Star SDS diagnostic system.

Car key programmers are ultraportable immobilizers and key programming devices, which provide customers with professional key programming, pin code reading etc. They can meet the actual needs of different users like locksmiths and car key shops.

The brands of car key programmers we offer cover Autel IM608 & IM508, Xhorse VVDI2 / VVDI MB / VVDI BMW tool, obdstar X300 DP Plus, Lonsdor, Yanhua Mini ACDP, Tango, Xtool X100 Pad 2, XTOOL X100 Pro2, Autek iKey820 etc., which support the majority of car keys from European, American, Asian and Chinese vehicles.

Autel IM608 / IM508 and Xtool X100 can not only program key but also diagnose the car, correct the mileage etc.

All of the brands of auto key programmers support update online to ensure the machine with the newest software. The user-friendly interaction design interfaces, the on-screen instructions and help file will help use these programmers smoothly.

Question: What is the best car key programmer in 2020?

Preface:

One man best tool isn’t the same as the next mans best tool .

you need the best tool for your needs , and only you know what this is , so simple exercise to get your answers ;

1) work out the reliable coverage that you lack at present
2) priorities it in its value to you , ie how much you need it and will use it
3) i doubt 1 tool will do it , so from points 1 and 2 draw up the tools that meet your needs then you have narrowed it down to exactly what you need and want to find then which tool best suits you needs, then which has the most earning potential to determine the order you buy them in.

It’s an impossible question to answer if not clear about the coverage you want , you could get many answers , others will tell you that tool is shit and you need this tool instead , then another will tell you how crap that one is and need this one , oops theres your mixed reports again , and which one fits your needs and brings worth to the table especially as mixed reports.

abrirtes is always useful
zedfull may prove useful
Autel IM608 may prove useful
Lonsdor K518ISE may prove useful
TDB1000 is making inroads

So many general units around , no matter what the unit is you will read mixed reports on it , that’s forums , groups and people, never agree , all like or loathe, one man go to tool is another dust catcher a tool one likes another hates , so mixed reports as you put it is the norm. I don’t know any tool that doesn’t have its haters and its negatives and have those that voice the negatives , another issue with forums and groups , you only read negatives as far fewer post on the positives, that’s the net. i doubt you will find any tool that doesn’t have mixed reports from users or those that pretend to be users . the hard work on the negative reports is weeding out the genuine from the procedure errors.
then what is the point of same coverage as a number of tools you already have and probably prefer , surely it makes more sense to look to fill gaps where you don’t already have token free reliable coverage already , this then opens up dealer tools , specialist make tools and so much more , what’s the point in another tool that just covers what you already have on a number of machines , and as some of these machines copy each other , you know the ones , then it reduces their need even further .

Autel is decent kit by all accounts. Autel has some coverage others don’t , but at cost of tool and £700 a year for updates will you get to use it enough when you have a lot of its coverage elsewhere.

smart pro is very good on new fords and does a good few of the new Renaults, but those tokens can hurt , and would you use it enough to make annual utp pay .

abrites are close to releasing akl on Renault traffic im told too , so if buying from a developer as seems the way now then won’t be long before others have it .

Lonsdor does alot of what autel does , both have their fails and both have their issues as with any tool .

In details one by one:

1. Autel IM608 review
1).

I have a lot of Autel tools and they have been really good for me in the field so naturally the Autel IM608 was my go-to for a starter. The subscription doesn’t deter me as it might for others because I ended my snap-on subscriptions now that I’ve outgrown their capability. Compared to snap-on subscription prices, Autel is a drop in the bucket.
So far it hasn’t left me completely empty handed. I had a 2008 Hyundai Azera it refused to pull a PIN code from so I had to buy one. Have a Jeep Commander it refuses to change the PCM VIN over OBD2 on even though it’s worked on many others.. Ended up just changing the WCM VIN so that they would sync and that was okay for the customer as we don’t do emissions testing. 2008 Saab 9-3 it wouldn’t pull a PIN code from.

2).

I own the Autel MaxiIM IM608. I purchased it because I wanted to do more key programming. My first vehicle I used it on, was a 2015 Fiat 500 NEC MCU in BCM. I could not find PIN in NEC, I was able to read with VVDI prog. So I purchased the Autel IM608, it was able to read pin no problem. Went to precode the transponder (Dealer key would have worked no problem but I was using aftermarket) and the IM608 would not get the needed information from IMMO (said Failed, Locked BCM, had to disconnect battery to regain communication).

So I called Autel support (China) I tried Autel USA but they didn’t seem too knowledgeable. Autel support china within minutes could see the error on their server, they sent me Beta software for IMMO_FIAT to attempt and solve the problem. It worked perfectly.

All other vehicles I have tried have gone well, I was curious about Incode/outcode in newer fords. It programmed a key on 2018 Ford transit no problem, didn’t ask for any pins or incode/outcode.

I only purchased the Autel because I have their Maxisys Elite and ADAS frame and I am very happy with their tools. I have never used a Lonsdor or OBDStar so I cannot comment on their performance.

One big bonus to the IM608 is you also get SCN Coding, VW online coding ect. I use the XP400 to clone modules all the time, VVDI prog used to be my “go to” but now Xp400 is.

Is it a rookie tool? Nope, if you’re a rookie you’ll probably be frustrated. But if you have basic EEPROM and MCU skills / Locksmith skills id highly recommend it.

3.The Autel IM608 has more value if you buy the bundle kit that comes with the APB112 Key simulator and the GBOX2. Normally the bundle that includes these 2 is the same price as JUST the IM608 with XP400 programmer.

I don’t work on Mercedes or Volkswagen that much so I can’t speak to that much

It handles all the ford and fiat I have worked on even the newer fiat
BMW on the IM608 has been a very good revenue stream, already paying for the tool and then some, and I am just out of the gate with knowing anything

I would recommend it for a 1st tool for these reasons:
1. It’s my first key oriented tool and it’s been great for learning on
2. tech support for Autel is spot on, the immo team there is knowledgeable and actually wants to help. Jocy is who I ask for.
3. it is fairly universal and if the software is lacking, often times you can’t still get the job with extra work because of the XP400 and GBOX2 then just not doing it at all if your dead set on JUST OBD
4. the diag software is good, it comes with a built in hex editor that works well, storage and organization is neat
5. the J2534 programmer is an added source of revenue, often overlooked feature when talking immo but I use it in a pinch when factory files are needed

Most people will tell you as they have told me that no one tool will do all jobs. I think VVDI 2 might have better software.
Subscription wise some say the IM608 is costly.
Luckily just getting ONE of these quality brands will probably open you up to buying and wanting even more. I thought the IM608 was too expensive when I bought it, took me months to commit. Now that I have it and its making money, I have no regrets.

VVDI2 review:

1) if you buy full vvdi 2 you get bmw with it.

vvdi mb , you need to weigh up if it will pay its way , will you get enough Mercedes at good enough rates to get payback , and on NI rates what risks are you prepared to take with cars up to 50k value.

everything comes down to payback , and risk vs profit at end of day , only got to kill one car to kill alot of profit to claw back, though in NI , kill someone’s merc you may book that body bag .

2) Around were I am the cars are mostly German, not touched a fiat for at least 5 years. Vauxhall can be programmed with autel or op com. I use mb vvdi and Simon touch for Mercedes.

vvdi bmw tool reviews:

@ huzionet feedback:

-> Support instrument cluster memory M35080 v6 – done

-> Key programming in 2004 E60 with CAS2 successful.

-> I was able to connect and code the test kit I built with cas3, kgm, kombi, ahl, where communication is via d-can cable. I was able to code two controllers and program the meter. In fact, before these activities, the program downloaded data from the internet. Today I tried to connect to E83 and failed, and should also code this car. We managed to change the mileage in CAS3 + through obd and change the mileage from read m35080v6 memory. For now, I have not tried to do more on the car.

-> I think that key programming is well done because vvdi2 has had CAS3 ++ keys for a long time.

@MIKUr1 feedback:

Got the vvdi bmw tool and for now I did two keys – one for E63 CAS2 and second for E87 CAS2. Both without problem, 3-4 minutes job, but actually, this is no big achievement .

In F15 it reads FA and coding properly, but can’t recode. Also, after loading dump from EWS3 it shows that mileage is 0km – of course not so big problem

@lukasz_61 feedback:

I’ve read ISN from MSD80 from 2008 E92 335i US. Not thru OBD port, but by doing little harness on bench like in diagram.

@chrisi1909 feedback

New Version 1.50 ready for downloading since yesterday ! A few changes.

@mircea13n feedback

I’ve talked to xhorse support about sw bugs , sent logs to R&D team of xhorse with answer.

on F series i discovered that anytime i try to code a unit the sw crash. cas2 key add via obd tested successfully.

VVDI MB BGA Tool and reviews:

  1. vvdi mb get that, I have both and abtires times to get key password is horrible.
  2. I have AVDI, butsometimes VVDI has better working times on pulling out the password from the car. But sometimes VVDI has advantages, sometimes not. I know, that VVDI works with tokens, but when you use VVDI Benz keys, you get some tokens for that too, and don’t 4get, that there is some free calculations/day too and a token free version for a handfull of money.
From the other hand AVDI makes everything 4 free, but you have to pay AMS yearly just to be able to use the whole thing.
The wise ones have both of ’em + CGDI Benz, just to b able to make the fastest choiche. For Example: S-Class 2015, W222, akl.Abritas counting Time was nearly 26-30 hours. VVDI foretold 4-5 hours.

PS: W222 2015 on fbs3 .In the cars papers was 2015, didn’t checked the windows for date.

  1. Buy VVDI with an xhorse key cutter then token free 1 a day
    -assume offer still available.

obdstar review:

  1. Obdstar is very good

a good price… and works very well. really is very good for the price.

  1. I have xpad 2 and compared to obdstar DP Plus…. OBDSTAR is superior… works very well Fiat Renault BMW and other brands that are not easy to work with another team.

Also much better than Autel IM608.

  1. I use X300DP and am very happy with it.Most Asian cars, and key programming on newer cars (except VAG BMW MB) are done with this one for me.
  2. One my first tool was the Xtool pro pad. it’s an ok tool but I am not impressed, I looked at the obdstar and looks very similar to the pro pad, thus I am assuming would be a little bit different but not by much. My good friend of mine has the OBDSTAR. I have programmed like two keys and have not use the tool that much to say if it’s a good or not.
  3. I think OBDSTAR after experience has many advantage than Xtool pro pad and Autel im608 especially for Japanese car and Europe car , it worth to test.
  4. The method to precode chips with Obdstar:

You need P001 programmer for obdstar to precode keys .

19111515738105015458

  1. If you are in Europe, don’t you think that obdstar support much car like Peugeot, Renault, Opel, Fiat,… seems much better than im608 (regardless Benz).
  1. Obdstar is definitely the first choice based on price and coverage.I have them all, auro seem to promise the world but don’t deliver quick enough so far behind on European market. Xtool is good and a decent complimentary tool. I spent so much time in shenzhen with each of the manufacturers and have been offered distribution on all 3 but obdstar is the tool of choice!

BTW we have a new tool coming out for EU market exclusively for obdstar at a price of around 500 gbp to give you a tester of what obdstar can do! That is obstar X300 Pro4.

2020-best-car-key-programmers-review-03

  1. Definitely OBDSTAR x300 and then when you can get a smartpro, I still favor the x300 for speed and weightover my smartpro for some makes.

If you asked me ” what ur x300 better than im608 or pro pad ?”, my answer is: It depends on the make of the car, that’s like ask what is your favorite wrench, of course it’s 10mm but you can’t do everything with just that one.

  1. I have OBDSTAR x300 dp , with RFID and EPROM adapters, I’m really happy with it, never had any problem.
I made several keys but mostly I use it for mileage correction. Anyway to do locksmith job u need other tools not just one of these posted here.

If you are considering to have one OBDSTAR, it depends on what main job you want to do, they have newest ODO Master for mileage correction and X300 Pro4 for locksmith. Their price is half of OBDSTAR X300 DP Plus.

  1. OBDSTAR x300 strictly for Honda Toyota keys and Nissan. And lastly the t300 For older fords with the 4c keys.

Scorpio Tango key programmer reviews
1). Tango is used for key making via eeprom & transponder generation

Maybe Tango is not in direct competition with Abrites. Tango is mainly used for key making via eeprom and transponder generation whereas Abrites is mainly for keymaking and other functions via OBD. The closest point they meet is with the Tag key tool been used as a eeprom aid.

Now it could be said that Tango could kick the ass of Tmpro, ad900, zed bull, and miraclone. but others would beg to differ.

I would say that Abrites is now becoming big competition to AD 100 Pro.

Tango kicks Abrites ass in RELIABILITY, QUALITY and customer support with ease. Obviously it cant do nowhere near as much as Abrites, BUT atleast it works first time and everytime and you can trust it UNLIKE Abrites

2). Each programmer has its limitation

Tango, TMPro, Tag keytool, Arbrites are complementary.
Each has its limitations and it is designed in such a way by a team of designers. And team designers come from the same group.

If you complain why tango does not support the type transponder xxx, then tmpro is the solution and vice versa.
So there will never be one tool that spans all the problems.

3) Two Tango versions in China, FLY and Skorpio-LK

I have Tango from China upgraded to latest software on Scorpio-Lk Tango web-side no problem , Great Tool !
but you have two version available from china, the cheaper version about 200USD is clone/copy rubbish and will not update on Skorpio-LK ……
Original Tango price- over 1000USD and all is working fine you must register on Skorpio-LK with in one month of purchase and if you don,t connect to internet/server tool will lock itself , you can buy extra modules from Skorpio-LK no problems.

4).
I have tried new Fly tango V1.111, it does not work. Before update it worked little bit. For example I could red Skoda 1998 iD33 key. But after update nothing works. Except for documentation, that works. I am using it on windows XP, no yellow flags. When I check Fly tango software says everything is ok, but last line says some errors. I contacted Fly company, but they are not interested, probably because they know it does not work. Any suggestions, I be grateful. I think I have to buy original Tango. I was misslead because some guys on DK said it worked like original, but no updates. FLY TANGO V1.111 DOES NOT WORK

5):
The Tango functions: cover, read, write and generate transponders;read kilomoters,VIN,and transponder type.

Tango Transponder support: Philips transponders, Temic transponders, Megamos transponders,Texastransponders,Atmel

Note that, here i mean the original from Scorpio, not the cheap one from FLY
Maybe you would save some good $$$$ if you just bought the clone TM100 from the FLY company. But it has many bugs and sometimes goes faulty for no reason. Send it back for repair but a few months later, probably DEAD again. They cannot help resolve any bugs or issues with their devices

In summary, Tango is more stable than TM100.
Perhaps TM100 remains to be perfect.
but if you don’t venture to buy a new product, chose Scorpio Tango instead.

6) Tango can be mostly  used because it have to many advance options and softwares are extremely cheap and 100% secure!!  Every update brings new free keymakers. Look at the few updates id8c cloning, id48 cloning along with quite a few free modules, do any of the other offer these as free updates. Also including bmw/vag the pay per brand is dirt cheap and once paid the most updates are free for these brands.

Also had Tango connected to PC for more then 24 hours for scanning code. It is still working.

Tango have some free package but the problem is most of the software is not free, you have to Pay for most of them to get them.

With tango you can work with original transponders (so cheap than TPX…) and don’t have to adapt anything when u make a key (pcf7936) like other tool. all keys generated by Tango are READY TO START.

I really love Tango ,Tango growing step by step ,this is I like. I think main problem is not device, main problem is support.  Distributor they are always delay to reply ,  So who can give fast support that device is good.

2020-best-car-key-programmers-review-04
Lonsdor K518 reviews:
I have Lonsdor K518 and it works good with all newer Fords. Even with all keys lost. I have done 2018 Explorer, 2017 Expedition, 2015 F150, etc.

It works good with Maserati key programming as well.

Land Rover has good coverage.

I’ve done BMW FEM/BDC All keys lost. (It was easier with Lonsdor than Autohex and VVDI).

Lonsdor K518 Cons:

Can add new key for Continental MQB, not Jonson control MQB

Mini ACDP Review:

2020-best-car-key-programmers-review-05

@ droidwayne65 review

It’s worked fine for me so far but I use it only for EGS stuff.

@ PixelsFixed

Well I’ve used it for:-
CAS3+ reading and writing flash and eeprom. Excellent
FEM/BDC spare keys. Spot on.
Cas4 AKL and spare keys. Spot on.
Locked JLR KVM. Spot on.
FRM Repairs. Again, spot on.

It’s becoming one of my favorite tools.

@ Jimmy07

Done a few CAS3+ and 16 Jag XF with no issues
I never buy Chinese tools direct from China. Yes you will pay more buying from a local supplier but you have some support and can return the tool if it breaks.

also CAS4/4+ no issues

@DayvG

I bought one purely as it was cheap, I needed something for my Comfort Access retrofit that could make keys and read the CAS. This was £300ish and does everything I need. It makes keys flawlessly on CAS4 over OBD. I know it’s not the most expensive but keys over OBD is a great option!

Update:

I bought an ACDP mini purely to create new CAS4 keys for my F10 and to clone my CAS4 for a comfort access retrofit. CAS clone worked great and was successful in adding new keys to donor CAS after cloning as well as original keys working ok. Reading CAS4 via ICP working first time every time and I have had no failures or errors. The issue with my method was that cloning the original CAS4 also copied the HWAP which rendered the Comfort Access aspects of the donor CAS inoperable. The solution was given by a friend who decrypted the CAS using a different tool, I think Autohex. I still had to provide the DME ISN for him from ACDP in order to decrypt the CAS data.

ACDP has some usable functions but its certainly not a professional tool. I don’t use the mobile interface, I use the PC software.

@willisodhiambo

True, ACDP is one of the best tools. No soldering and does what it needs to for key making and icp reading of cas.
Explorer is the most cumbersome (you need keytag tool, Ecu explorer needs that you open dme’s e.t.c) but one of the best all round tool, Autohex makes things as easy as can be and also one of the best all round.

@MarioIL

I have the newest one my ACDP is only 2 months old. bought ACDP FULL BMW PACKAGE.

CAS3-4 keys no problem with ACDP icp mode of course
FRM repair also works good

Update:

I used it for few keys and coping f series ecus had no issues with that,
tried bdc for key programming wouldn’t connect to bdc via adapter
need more testing but so far for keys on cas4/3 it works good.

Update:

Just did CAS4  KR55WK49663 key yesterday worked like a charm, I need to test it on fem and bdc but CAS never had any issues. I also use it from iPhone

Xtool X100 Pro2 IMMO review

  1. If you lost keys to your vehicle this is a great tool a lock smith or having the dealer do it will cost you around 500 so by doing it yourself with this device you save yourself 300$ roughly this device also has a old 2 scanner and on select models you can adjust your miles. overall this is a great product and is very well made.
  2.  Worked like charm. Programmed an aftermarket key for my 2014 Lexus Rx350at first try.
  3. Able to program 3 aftermarket keys to my 2009 Outback XTand it did not ask for the immobilizer or teaching code.

Some users feedback, Its good for old cars, not for new cars.

All package with tuto on Coding F series: 100% tested

Well I received my ENET cable today and did some coding already. If you’re interested in coding yourself, read on

This DIY is intended for F-series BMW’s alone. We are talking across a TCP/IP enabled network with the F-series.

What you need
– An ENET cable.
– E-Sys program, datafiles, token and PIN
– A laptop (a PC would work too but it wouldn’t be comfortable in most cases lol)

Now, you could go overboard and get a power supply cable for constant supply to your car but if you minimize your coding sessions to 30 minutes and have your car running for at least 15 minutes in between, it should go a long way. Also, it’s advisable to do the browsing in the code offline and only do the coding while being in your car (more about this later on).

ENET Cable
There are basically two ways to get the ENET cable. You can buy a complete cable, or you can simply build one.

If you are not interested in building one and want to spend a little bit more money to get a working cable, then this is a site that has been confirmed working by some of our F10 friends: http://www.uobdii.com/wholesale/bmw-enet-ethernet-to-obd-interface-cable-e-sys-icom-coding-f-series.html

enet-cable

I wouldn’t recommend other sites, although they may work, problem is that they have not been confirmed working yet. $17.99, Usually, after he receives payment, he can have the cable ship the next day and arrive with you 3-5 days later.

The other way is to build a cable yourself. Cost for this would probably range anywhere between 10 to 20 bucks. You will need to solder a bit but it’s nothing too serious if you follow the instructions to the letter.

To build your own cable, you will need the following:

– OBD2 or OBDII connector
– RJ-45 cable and connector
– 510 ohm .25 watt resistor

The schematics of the official BMW cable can be found below in the attachments and how to solder your cable can be seen in the photos directly below:

Coding-F-series

E-Sys program, datafiles and such
I currently work with Esys 3.28.1, which work like a charm for me. I have read reports about newer builds but also read about a lot of install problems and such with those builds so it seems best to stick with these for now.

You can find the link to E-Sys here:
